First Nations Nehiyawewin ~ Anishinaabe ~ Metis
I'm a proud member of the Sapotaweyak Cree Nation on my mother’s side of my family. Her mother Charlotte Stevens has her roots in Sapotaweyak. I grew up in Swan River MB. and moved to Brandon in 1989. My father is Anishinaabe with roots in Pine Creek from his mother Pelage Moosetail and Metis from his father Louison Fayant in Camperville, MB.
I am currently a 4th year student at Brandon University studying Sociology with a minor in Psychology. I hope to incorporate Indigenous Cultural traditions and teachings within Community Development work.
I currently work with the Brandon Friendship Centre as the Mental Health Proctor which allows me the opportunity to bring these two goals together. While working at the Brandon Friendship ship Centre as their Metal Health Proctor I carry out scheduled Wellness Walks every Thurs of the week.
Wellness Walks
This involves Land Based Teachings as well as promotes self healing from within by providing a Traditional healing environment. On the 1st Friday of each month I will have Art Therapy Classes, that will benefit people coping with anxiety, depression, daily stress, PTSD, ADHD, by giving them a visual non-visual outlet to express themselves. I also provide a space for Sharing Circles which are open to all who want to attend.
Art Therapy Classes
Every 2nd Wednesday of the month, I carry out The Sharing Circle, which is a comfortable, safe and confidential space where people can express their feelings and thoughts on what they might be going through or have experienced.
Sharing Circle
I also provide when requested, the 7 Grandfather Teachings and Tipi Pole Teachings, which speak about the Indigenous Values we strive to instill in our children as well as practice in our daily living.
7 Grandfather Teachings and Tipi Pole Teachings
I receive great fulfillment in walking the Path of Native Spirituality within the Light of the Great Spirit. I participate in Sweat Lodges on a regular basis as a Lodge Fire-keeper as well as many other Traditional activities.
Traditional Sweat Lodge Firekeeper
I believe in helping the community stay healthy and happy, so I have spent the past few years offering my spare time as a Sweat Lodge Firekeeper. I truly value the time I spend at the Spiritual Grounds and it gives me great fulfillment in my personal life.
Traditional Native Traditional Artist
As a self-taught Artist. I paint Spiritual Traditional Native Art, Traditional Spiritual Pictographs, Abstract Art, Expressionism, Landscapes, Wildlife Art, Surreal Art, Watercolor, Graphic Design and Illustration. I have currently created a series of poster images for our 7 Grandfather Teachings which I use to teach young and old about our Traditional Values.
Public Speaker
As a Public Speaker I work to share Traditional Knowledge and Cultural Teachings with a wide variety of people including students and youth as they are the ones to carry the next torch forward. I speak on a wide variety of topics including the 7 Grandfather Teachings, Tipi Teachings, Smudging, the Medicine Wheel, Fire-keeping and share my Cultural Knowledge.

"The Great Mystery"
The Material and The Spiritual Universe
I believe we are all interconnected to a "Source" or spiritual energy. There is a Spiritual World within ours but we don’t usually see or experience.
My Native Culture teaches me there are two sides to everything we know and experience. People, Sickness, Animals, Plants, objects, everything... All have a Spiritual side and a Physical material side. What we think of as matter and space is not the full picture of the material world. The material world is now known to be made up of wavelike vibrational energy. The known Universe is occupied by many other dimensions and many other "spiritual planes".
Because most empty space is not in our dimension we don’t normally see or experience it.
Matter itself is only a vibration of energy. Each frequency string takes on a unique identity such as a subatomic particles, all atoms, light, electromagnetism.
The Material side of the Universe, All living things, everything in the Universe; are all composed of these energy frequency's.
All humans have a connection on a spiritual level with our consciousness to a spiritual plane.
These Energies often vibrate in Synchronicity thereby influencing and promoting Healing.
We see Sentience manifest with Dark matter, Dark energy, Quantum phenomenon and indirectly in nature through symbiotic relationships, Intelligent Design and phenomenon such as instincts, intuition, Déjà vu and creativity.
This spiritual plane or “other side” is alluded to by many cultures and religions.
Native culture teaches that this world we live in is but a shadow or reflection of the other larger spiritual world.
I think we all have a shared connection to the Universal Spiritual Energy and because of that we are all part of a larger consciousness.
